Artist's Comments

Anna is one of three sisters I drew a while ago. I started out trying to draw the same person a few times, but the three pictures, while they had similarities (the clothing, mostly - hahaha), weren't similar enough to be the same person. So I looked at them for a while to understand what made them different, and tried to draw them again, and came up with a few pictures of each of the girls. Only two of the pictures were actually any good (one of Anna, and one of Siobhan), so I'm only posting those two. But the girls are in my head now, and I'm trying to find something to do with them.

Anna is the middle of the three sisters, at sixteen years old. She's thin and less developed than the other two girls, but not unhealthily so. She has Short hair that flicks out and a fringe that tends to fall over her eyes. Anna is quiet and stoic, and competantly independant of her sisters, but tends to stick with them out of affection. (Don't tell Chloe, but Anna gets on better with Siobhan.)

You really are going to have to find something to put these girls in, since you already know what their personalities and everything are like. And I like the way her sweater bunches up around her elbows. (Sweater, jumper...which do you say? My Australian teacher said jumper....)

I know! When I first drew them I started trying to think of a story-line for them, but I just can't think of anything that fits. I may have to start out with a short piece, just so I can see where their minds are and what sort of story they'd have.

Personally, I call that a jacket (jacket being anything with a zipper to zip it up), but if instead of zip, the neck of the . . . er, over-layer, was a the same shape at the front as a t-shirt would be, then I'd call that a jumper.

I've always wondered where the words 'sweater' and 'jumper' came from. Is it supposed to make you sweat? Are you supposed to jump up and down? :P

Yeah, I know @_@ We don't use "pullover" here in Australia, but it seems to be the one that sounds as though it makes the most sense. Maybe jumpers were a certain style of ';pullover' (see, I feel so weird saying it that I have to put it in inverted commas) that criminals used before they jumped their victims. And it makes sense that sweaters are designed to warm you up, and what do you do when you get warm? You sweat! Ehh, that sounds plausible XD

@_@ Differences in different dialects of English are so confusing and fun. One that always makes me either giggle or feel nervous is ';pants' In American English, it means 'trousers', but in British English, it means 'underwear'. XD How befuddling!

Yeah, for sure! Mum had that problem in England: on Australia Day, she was wearing her navy, er, trousers with stars on them (because they're sort of like the flag, but not), and she was in line at a shop, and a little girl was looking at them because - of course - they were so spectacular, and Mum says "You like them? They're my Australia Day pants!" The mother of the little girl sort of jumped, and turned the girl around, and Mum realised her mistake too late. She thinks the woman turned her daughter around because she was afraid Mum'd show them her, er, pants.

 Now that is a classic example of cultural misunderstanding! I'm always interested to find out the words people use in English-speaking countries other than the United States and England. Obviously, I know what words we use in American English, and from books like Harry Potter I'm fairly familiar with the terms they use there, but I'm always interested in countries like Australia or New Zealand or Canada or wherever, wondering what words they use and how close they are to one or the other.

I know I said this before but your colouring is amazing! And I love the style here, simple soft lines. Very nice, very nice. *nods*

 Thank you :3 I've been doodling her a bit more, recently, trying to be able to understand her more fully so I can expand on her. Nothing has turned out as well as this one, yet, but I'll get there.
